A season that looked so promising just a week earlier came to a disappointing end Wednesday when the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team dropped its final game, 95-83, to North Country Community College. After moving into contention for both a conference and regional postseason bid, the Panthers ended the year by dropping the final four games to finish 7-15 overall and 7-14 in Region III. North Country is 8-17 overall and 6-16 in Region III.
After the long bus ride to Saranac Lake, the Panthers struggled in the first half. North Country took a 51-37 lead into the break and the Panthers weren't able to rally all the way back in the second half.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by 19 points from Devonte Henry (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls H.S.) and 14 points each from Garrick Averett (Hempstead/Hempstead H.S.) and Ja Don Crooms (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls H.S.). Derek Brower (Queens/Half Hollow Hills West H.S.) added 11 points and Shareef Ali (Queens/Martin Van Buren H.S.) posted 10.
