Despite another superb outing by Nick Cody (Cortland/Cortland H.S.), the Panthers baseball team couldn't come away with a win against Onondaga Community College on Tuesday. Tompkins Cortland dropped the doubleheader in Dryden, 3-1 and 15-2. The team falls to 4-24 overall and 2-20 in Region 3 West Division. Onondaga is 22-15 overall and 12-13 in the West Division.

Game One: Onondaga 3, Tompkins Cortland 1

Cody was dealing in game one. The right-hander worked seven innings, striking out 12 while allowing just one earned run. It marked the third time this season he recorded 11 or more strikeouts and the fifth time he has allowed two or less earned runs in a start. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't deliver a big blow, stranding eight runners while plating just a single run in the sixth inning. The result was a tough luck loss for Cody and the Panthers in the opener.

Game Two: Onondaga 15, Tompkins Cortland 2  (5 innings)

Things got out of hand quickly in game two, with Onondaga scoring five runs in both the first and second innings. The score grew to 15-0 in the fifth before the Panthers put two runs across in the bottom of the inning to make the final score.

Jordan Shortsleeve (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) went 2-for-3 with one RBI from the leadoff spot. Dylan Higgins (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) had a hit and RBI and Nate Macek (Pittsford/Rush Henrietta H.S.) and Parker Stein (Spencerport/Spencerport H.S.) each had a hit and a run scored.

Looking ahead

The Panthers host Erie Community College on Saturday.
