The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team earned its fourth doubleheader split of the season Saturday. The Panthers lost the first game to SUNY Adirondack 9-1 before coming back to win the second game 13-9. Tompkins Cortland is now 5-8 and 4-6 in East Division games. Adirondack is now 8-15 overall and 6-10 in division.

Game One: Adirondack 9, Tompkins Cortland 1

The offense never got off the bus in game one, as the Panthers managed just two hits. The lone run came in the fifth inning, with Ben Useini (State Island/CSI HS for International Studies) crossing the plate on an RBI single by Jayden Jeminson (Brampton, Ontario/Louise Arbour). The run made the score 2-1, but Adirondack answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and then put the game away with six runs in the sixth.

The lack of offense spoiled another fine start from Ethan Buckley (Bath/Haverling H.S.), who was tagged with the loss despite allowing just three runs through the first five innings of work.

Game Two: Tompkins Cortland 13, Adirondack 9

Adirondack again took an early lead in game two, scoring twice in the first. The Panthers got on the board in the second and then put up five runs in the third and three more in the fourth. The lead stood at 9-5 heading into the last inning when the Panthers tacked on four more runs, providing enough cushion to weather an Adirondack rally and give the Panthers the split.

Luke Ough (Edmeston/Edmeston H.S.) led the 12-hit attack with three doubles. Vinny Perrotta (New Hartford/New Hartford H.S.) and Garrett Fox (Tully/Tully H.S.) each had two hits and Jaden Nelomes (Rochester/Churchville-Chili H.S.) drove in three runs.

Hyeonho Cho (Daejeon, South Korea/Sekwang) earned his third win of the season, striking out four while throwing the complete game.

Looking ahead

The Panthers and Timberwolves are scheduled to square off again Sunday at Gutchess Park in Cortlandville.
