A dominant pitching performance from Collin Schneider (Utica/Notre Dame H.S.) helped the Panthers baseball team split a doubleheader with SUNY Broome on Sunday. After losing 16-5 and winning 7-0, Tompkins Cortland stands at 5-21 overall, 5-17 in the West Division, and 5-13 against Mid-State Athletic Conference teams. Broome is 8-21 overall, 7-19 in the West Division, and 7-11 in the MSAC.

Game One: Broome 16, Tompkins Cortland 5

The Panthers led 3-2 after three innings, but Broome put up seven runs in the fifth to take control. Two more in the sixth and five in the seventh put the game well out of reach of the Panthers.

Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area H.S.) and Bradley Addicott (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) each had two hits in the opener.

Game Two: Tompkins Cortland 7, Broome 0

The Panthers again got on the board first in the second game, but this time they didn't let the Hornets back in. Schneider made sure of that, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just two hits. The right-hander struck out three in his best outing of the year.

Looking ahead

The Panthers travel to Jamestown Community College on Tuesday.
