Despite out-hitting their opponent on the day, the Panthers baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Broome on Saturday. Tompkins Cortland falls to 4-20 overall, 4-16 in the West Division, and 4-12 against Mid-State Athletic Conference teams. Broome is 7-20 overall, 6-18 in the West Division, and 6-10 in the MSAC.

Game One: Broome 12, Tompkins Cortland 2 (6 innings)

In the first game, each team had nine hits. That's where the similarity ended, as Broome took advantage of Panthers pitching issuing five walks and hitting five batters to run away with the win.

Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area H.S.), Noboru Shinohara (Tokyo, Japan/Dokkyo Saitama), and Bradley Addicott (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) each went 2-for-3 with a double.

Game Two: Broome 9, Tompkins Cortland 4

In the second game, the Panthers rapped out nine hits, scoring four runs; Brome had just five hits but managed to score nine times. The big difference again came from free passes: Tompkins Cortland pitching issued eight walks and hit three batters, while Broome pitching only walked two Panthers.

Talfourd Wynne (Philadelphia/Indian River H.S.) paced the offense by going 3-for-4. Addicott and Shinohara added to their big game ones with a pair of hits each in the nightcap.

Looking ahead

The Panthers and Hornets hook up again Sunday for a doubleheader in Dryden.
