A back-and-forth opening game was followed by a lopsided game two as the Panthers baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Erie Community College Tuesday in Dryden. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the West Division. Erie is 18-9 overall and 10-0 in division.

Game One: Erie 15, Tompkins Cortland 9

The teams combined for plenty of offense in game one, with each team scoring in four of the first five innings. Frank Marra (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) sparked the Panthers from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Dan Mrowinski (Syracuse/Solvay H.S.) also had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Frank Carino (St. Charles, Ill./St. Edward Catholic H.S.) had two of the team's 11 hits.

Game Two: Erie 22, Tompkins Cortland 0  (5 innings)

Game two also had plenty of offense, but this time it was all from Erie. The Kats scored three in the first inning before breaking things open with 10 in the second. Five more in the third and four in the fourth erased any hopes of a comeback for the Panthers. The home team was limited to just two hits in game two, singles from Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Are H.S.), and Mitch Shipman (Dryden/Dryden H.S.).

Looking ahead

The Panthers play at Finger Lakes Community College on Sunday.
