The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Queensborough Community College during its Spring Break trip Monday, winning 9-4 and losing 8-6. The Panthers are now 3-3 while Queensborough is 6-2.

Game 1: Tompkins Cortland 9, Queensborough 4

Starting pitcher Ridge Walker (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) worked through some early troubles to earn the win. The sophomore settled down after allowing four runs in the first two innings to go five strong innings, striking out eight along the way. His recovery allowed his teammates time to rally, scoring twice in the first and then taking the lead with six runs in the fourth. A single run in the fifth made the final margin 9-4.

Storm Grant (Homer/homer H.S.) provided the big blow with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. The sophomore finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI. Charlie Hammel (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta H.S.) and Alex Babcock (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) each had two hits with Hammel adding a pair of RBI.

Game 2: Queensborough 8, Tompkins Cortland 6

The Panthers painstakingly close to completing the doubleheader sweep, entering the seventh inning with a 6-2 lead. Queensborough rallied in the seventh with six runs to take the lead by what would turn out to be the final score of 8-6.

Starting pitcher Jake Woods (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) was the hard-luck loser, pitching into the seventh inning and allowing just four earned runs while striking out 11.

Babcock and Garret Hunter (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox H.S.) each had three hits, with Hunter driving in a pair of runs. Chris Micucci (Auburn/Auburn H.S.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases.

The Panthers take on the Monroe College JV in a doubleheader Tuesday.
