Coming of its best offensive performance of the season on Tuesday, the Panthers softball team had one of its toughest days at the plate on Thursday, managing just four hits and one run on the afternoon while losing to Corning Community College, 20-0 and 23-1. Tompkins Cortland is now 0-14 on the year while Corning is 15-12 overall and 9-6 in Region III.

Corning 20, Tompkins Cortland 0 (5 innings)

The game opened with the first seven Red Barons reaching base, thanks to two hits, two walks, and three errors. By the time the first inning was over, Corning was up 10-0 and in complete control. The visitors added five in the second before the Panthers recorded a hit. In the bottom of the second, Kimberly Duda (Homer/Homer H.S.) put a ball just onto the outfield grass for what would prove to be the lone hit of the game for the Panthers. Three other players reached base on walks, but none advanced past first base.

Corning 23, Tompkins Cortland 1 (5 innings)

After the first three batters struck out to start the game, the Panthers put runners on base in each of the final four innings, thanks to three hits, six walks, and one hit-by-pitch. Most of the activity came in the fourth inning. After a leadoff walk, Paige Graham (Groton/Groton H.S.) got the team's first hit of the day with a double. A fielder's choice left runners on the corners before Emily Aloi (Cortland/Homer H.S.) stroked a single to drive in the first run of the day for the Panthers. After another walk, the rally ended with a strikeout with two runners on base. The Panthers loaded the bases in the fifth on a Brianna Stafford (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) hit followed by a hit-by-pitch and a walk, but the last out came before another run could cross the plate.
