The Tompkins Cortland Community College cross country team made the long trip to Hamburg, New York Saturday to take part in a very special event, the Meghan Memorial Race, hosted by Hilbert College. The race honors the memory of Meghan Sorbera, a Hilbert cross country runner who suffered fatal injuries from a hit-and-run car accident in October 2008, and the sister of current Panther runner Tanner Sorbera (Burlington Flats/Edmeston H.S.). As a whole, the Panthers had a strong showing and, fittingly, Tanner set a new personal record for the 5k.

The race was an open event, with college runners racing alongside runner from the community. Robert Brehm (Groton/Groton H.S.) had his best finish of the season, crossing the line as the third collegiate runner and sixth overall with a time of 18:53. Andrew McDaniel (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) was the next Panther to cross, setting a new PR with a 23:17. Sorbera finished at 24:04 and Elijah Speight (Ithaca/Dryden H.S.) was at an even 32:00.

The Panthers are off a week before taking part in the Mid-State Athletic Conference championship on October 19 at Finger Lakes Community College.
