For the first time this season, the home field was no advantage for the Panthers baseball team. Tompkins Cortland hosted Finger Lakes Community College on Thursday, dropping both games by final scores of 11-5 and 5-0. The result was the first time this year Tompkins Cortland has lost both ends of a home doubleheader and drops the Panthers to 11-13 overall and 7-7 in West Division play. Finger Lakes is 23-15 overall and 12-4 in West Division.

Finger Lakes 11, Tompkins Cortland 5

The Panthers rallied from down 6-0 in the fifth to pull within one at 6-5 after six innings. The rallied ended in the final inning when the Lakers sealed the game with five runs in the top of the seventh.

Ryan Pepicelli (Schenectady/Schalmont H.S.) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs over the first three and a third innings. Austin Kulas (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) and Shane Cuevas (Montgomery/Valley H.S.) each went 2-for-4 at the plate with Cuevas hitting two doubles and driving in two runs. Kulas also doubled as part of the team's eight hits.

Tompkins Cortland 4, Finger Lakes 2

Kulas and Daniel Santiago (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) were the only Panthers to notch hits in game two as Tompkins Cortland was shut out for the first time since opening day on March 9. Finger Lakes got to Panthers pitching for five runs on ten hits, scoring what would prove to they would need with runs in three of the first four innings.

Jacob Mosher (Pulaski/Pulaski H.S.) took the loss on the mound, his first of the season.

Looking ahead

After getting the holiday weekend off, the Panthers play next on Tuesday at Genesee Community College in Batavia.
