Tompkins Cortland Community College is adding cross country as a varsity sport, starting with the Fall 2019 semester. The Panthers will field men's and women's teams in Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association (N.J.C.A.A.). A search is underway to hire a coach in time to spend the next year recruiting student-athletes for the 2019 teams.

Cross country will be the first new sport added at the College since men's lacrosse in 2008. "The timing is right to add men's and women's cross country to our family of intercollegiate sports," said College Director of Athletics and Recreation Mick McDaniel. "We know there is interest in cross country in our communities, with many of our local high schools fielding excellent programs. This allows us to offer the opportunity to compete on the college level to more student athletes."

The additions of men's and women's cross country bring the number of Tompkins Cortland's varsity sports to twelve.
