The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule Saturday. Hosting Jamestown Community College, the Panthers started slowly and never could get things going, losing 25-10, 25-12, 25-19. With one match left on the schedule Tompkins Cortland is now 2-8 overall and in Region 3. Jamestown improves to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in the region.

The visiting Jayhawks set the tone for the day from the start, racing to a 10-0 lead in the first set and never looking back. The second set was more of the same, with Jamestown leading 15-3 before the Panthers could gain any traction. It wasn't until the third set that the home team provided a challenge from the start.

Tompkins Cortland scored the first three points of the third set to hold the lead for the first time. Jamestown responded to tie the score and eventually take the lead, but the panthers fought back and reclaimed the lead at 12-10. A 7-0 run for the Jayhawks seemed to put the visitors back in control at 17-12, but the Panthers again responded and came all the way back to tie the score at 19-19. The rally to tie the score was five straight points, but it ended up being the last points the team would score as Jamestown tallied the final six points to close out the match.

Madison Kelly (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) led the attack with 5 kills and 2 aces while also pulling up 9 digs. Nikya Cook (Cortland/Dryden H.S.) had a team-best 14 digs and Hope Comfort (Cortland/Homer H.S.) added 11 digs and 3 kills. Adrianna Royce (Newfield/Newfield H.S.) finished with 7 assists and 7 digs.

Looking ahead

The Panthers have one date left on their schedule: a Friday match at Cayuga Community College.
