2018 Panthers volleyball celebrates a point

A season with many bright moments came to an end Saturday at the Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team hosted a Region III Pod. The Panthers lost in straight sets to Genesee Community College and Finger Lakes Community College before ending the day with a thrilling five-set match with Monroe Community College. The 3-2 loss to the Tribunes means Tompkins Cortland ends the year with a record of 7-14, the most wins for the Panthers in a season since 2011.


The match scores with Genesee were 25-15, 25-10, 25-15. Erin Harkenrider (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) led the team with six kills vs. the Cougars.


Against Finger Lakes the scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-18. Jade VanWagenen (McGraw/McGraw H.S) pounded out seven kills and Ashley Smith (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) had five kills, four aces, and four digs. Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) handed out ten assists against the Lakers.


The final match was the most fun, with the Panthers and Tribunes going the distance. Monroe took the opening set 25-20 before the Panthers won the next two, 26-24 and 25-21. The final two sets went to Monroe, 25-17 and 15-9. VanWagenen had 13 kills against Monroe and Smith had 10 kills and 10 digs. Green posted 17 assists, 16 digs, and 3 aces in the final match.


On the day, VanWagenen had 21 kills. Smith had 16 kills, 14 digs, and 4 aces. Erin Harkenrider (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had 14 kills and 10 digs and Jasmine Pooler (Moravia/Moravia H.S.) had 11 digs and 9 assists. Green ended the day with 31 assists, 24 digs, and 6 aces. Meghan Ball (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) and Jessica Kenyon (Cortland/Cortland H.S.) each had 14 digs.
