Panthers Honor Sophomores Before Playing Onondaga

On the night the four sophomores on the Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team were honored, the Panthers dropped a home match to Onondaga Community College. Wednesday night's Mid-State Athletic Conference match went to Onondagas in straight sets, dropping the Panthers to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the MSAC. Onondaga is now 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the MSAC.

Sophomores Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.), Jasmine Pooler (Moravia/Moravia H.S.), Ashley Smith (Lansing/Lansing H.S.), and Tiffanie White (Queens/George Washington Carver H.S.) were recognized and thanked before the match. When play began, the Panthers started strong, taking a 5-4 lead. The early momentum didn't last as Onondaga went on a 10-1 run to take control. The first set ended with Onondaga on top 25-12.

The second and third sets were closer finals, but Onondaga prevailed in both, 25-18 and 25-20.

Jade VanWagenen (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) led the offense with 10 kills. Green handed out nine assists while pulling out four digs on the night.

The Panthers head back into Region III play Saturday, traveling to SUNY Adirondack for matches against the Timberwolves, Hudson Valley Community College, and North Country Community College.
