Panthers Volleyball Earns Two Wins at Broome Pod

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team earned a pair of wins Saturday, beating Mohawk Valley Community College in five sets, 3-2, and getting a forfeit from Fulton-Montgomery Community College, 3-0. The Panthers also faced off against Herkimer College, losing 3-0. The Panthers are 4-5 overall and 3-5 in Region III.

The Mohawk Valley match was a tight one, with the two teams scoring exactly the same number of points over the first four sets. The Panthers won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-18, before the Hawks took the next two, 25-19 and 25-20. The deciding set went to Tompkins Cortland, 15-10.

Against Herkimer, the first two sets were tight before the Generals sealed the win with a lopsided final set. The Panthers lost by scores of 25-22, 29-27, and 25-9.

Ashley Smith (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) and Jade VanWagenen (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) provided a strong 1-2 punch all day for the Panthers, recording 25 and 24 kills, respectively. Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) directed the attack with 37 assists.

The Panthers are back home Wednesday at 6 p.m., hosting Onondaga Community College for a Mid-State Athletic Conference match.
