Panthers Pick Up Second Win of the Season

The Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball team picked up its second win of the season when the Panthers went 1-2 in three matches Saturday. The Region III Pod at Corning saw the Panthers beat Cayuga Community College 3-0 before falling to Jefferson Community College and Onondaga Community College, each by scores of 3-0. The Panthers are now 2-3 overall and 1-3 in Region III contests.

The Panthers beat Cayuga by scores of 25-17, 25-10, and 25-13, marking the second time this season Tompkins Cortland has beaten the Spartans. Against Jefferson the Panthers lost 25-13, 25-12, and 26-24.  The Onondaga loss went by scores of 25-4, 25-18, and 25-10.

Jade VanWagenen (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) had 12 kills and 8 blocks on the day. Erin Harkenrider (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had 13 aces and 8 kills while Ashley Smith (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) had 9 kills and 6 aces. Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) handed out 21 assists.

The Panthers return home to host SUNY Broome Thursday at 6 p.m.
