Volleyball Comes Up Just Short at Corning

A pair of sets decided by just two points each started the Tompkins Cortland Community College volleyball match at Corning Community College Wednesday. Unfortunately for the Panthers, both of those tight contests went in favor of the Red Barons before Corning finished the sweep with a seven-point win in the third set. Corning by scores of 26-24, 25-23, and 25-18 to improve to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Tompkins Cortland falls to 1-1 overall and in the MSAC.

Jade VanWagenen (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) and Ashley Smith (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) paced the offense with eight and seven kills, respectively. Amanda Green (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) handed out nine assists.

The Panthers return to Corning this weekend for the first Region III Pod of the season. The Panthers will play matches against Cayuga Community College, Jefferson Community College, and Onondaga Community College on Saturday.
