The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team closed out the season this weekend with another great effort, playing hard for a full 90 minutes despite facing a disadvantage in terms of number of players. On Sunday the Panthers fell to Onondaga Community College 6-0 to end the season with a record of 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Onondaga, among the teams receiving votes in the latest national rankings, improves to 11-2 overall and claims the MSAC championship with a record of 5-0 in conference.

The Panthers started only one game this season with a full lineup of 11 players. On Sunday, 10 Panthers started and left it all on the field. As the rain and wind picked up in intensity at various points, the game was scoreless through 15 minutes before Onondaga broke the ice with a long strike. The second goal came five minutes later, but the Panthers stiffened for the next 15 minutes. A third goal with under 10 minutes left in the half made the score 3-0 heading into the break.

The Lazers made it 4-0 in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Panthers kept them off the board for the next 25 minutes. A score with under 18 minutes left made it 5-0, and an Onondaga goal with under two minutes to play provided the final margin.

Tompkins Cortland keeper Gabby Foley (Barton/Tioga H.S.) capped a stellar season with her season-high 23 saves. She finishes the season with 116 saves, which currently ranks as the most in Region 3 and in the top three in the nation.
