The Tompkins Cortland women's soccer team on Wednesday broke a scoring record that was set before anyone on the team was born. Playing in Watertown against Jefferson Community College, the Panthers set a new team record for goals in a game with a 12-0 win. The Panthers are now 5-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Mid-State Athletic conference. Jefferson is 2-11 overall and 1-4 in the MSAC.

Tompkins Cortland's previous record for goals in a game was set on September 20, 1998 when the Panthers beat Jamestown Community College 11-0. After coming close to that record earlier this year, Wednesday was the day for history. Eight different players scored goals as the Panthers peppered the Jefferson goal all game. Shannon DeRosa (Poughquag/Arlington H.S.) was one of four players to score two goals, adding a pair of assists to finish the game with a team-high six points. Brianna Allen (Marion/Marion H.S.) had two goals and an assist while Paris Good (Syracuse/Ithaca H.S.) and Mackenzie Gardner (Hornell/Hornell H.S.) each had two goals. Cristina Torres (Ellenville/Ellenville H.S.), Morgan Lawrence (DeRuyter/DeRuyter H.S.), Elise Clavel (Ithaca/Lehman Alternative Community School), and Jessica Fisk (Waterloo/Waterloo H.S.) each scored a goal, with Torres and Taliyah McCoy-Thomas (Dryden/Union-Endicott H.S.) each registering an assist.

Goalkeeper Kerrin O'Shaughnessy (Worcester/Worcester H.S.) made five saves while posting her third shutout of the season.

The Panthers play at SUNY Adirondack Saturday. It is the final game of the regular season for both teams.
