A goal with 28.3 seconds left in regulation gave the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team its first win of the season, a 3-2 final at Niagara County Community College Wednesday. The Panthers are now 1-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Region III. Niagara is 1-3 overall and in region.

Over the first three games of the season, the Panthers scored a total of two goals, and both came in the season-opener. The first half of Wednesday's game continued the frustration, with the Panthers failing to score while trailing 1-0 at the half. The Panther finally broke through early in the second half, snapping a scoreless streak that had grown to more than 240 minutes of soccer. Shannon DeRosa (Poughquag/Arlington H.S.) came through, scoring off an assist from Paris Good (Syracuse/Ithaca H.S.) to tie the game at 1-1 just two minutes into the second half. Niagara regained the lead three minutes later, and held a 2-1 lead as the clock ran down in the second half.

With 10:50 left in regulation, DeRosa again found the net, this time off an assist from Sage Garrison (Odessa/Odessa-Montour H.S.). The 2-2 tie held into the final minute of regulation, when Good beat the Niagara keeper for the game-winner, just 28.3 seconds before the game would have gone to overtime.

Goalkeeper Katie Slocum (Candor/Candor H.S.) earned the win with nine saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal.

Tompkins Cortland has another week off before taking the field again. The Panthers play host to Herkimer College Wednesday, September 12 at 4 p.m.
