The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team worked overtime Sunday, earning a big 3-2 win at Mohawk Valley Community College. The win guarantees a winning record for the season for the Panthers and goes a long ways toward securing a home game when the NJCAA Region III playoffs begin. Tompkins Cortland's record is now 9-5 overall and 8-5 in Region III. Mohawk Valley drops to 5-8-1 overall and in region.

The win didn't come easy. Mohawk Valley scored the only goal of the first half, forcing Tompkins Cortland to play from behind. The Panthers evened the score early in the second half on a goal by Kristen Frear (Lansing H.S./Ithaca) off an assist Sage Garrison (Odessa-Montour H.S./Odessa), but the Hawks regained the lead with a goal with 30 minutes left in the half. A minute later Serina Guilianti (Harrison H.S./Harrison) scored an unassisted goal to knot the score at 2-2. The deadlock held the rest of regulation, sending the Panthers into overtime for the second time this season. And for the second time, the Panthers were up to the challenge. This time it was Garrison scoring the game-winner, scoring off a direct-kick assist from Briana Sokol (Newark Valley H.S./Newark Valley).

Katie Slocum (Candor H.S./Candor) earned the win in goal with nine saves.

The Panthers close out the regular season Wednesday at home against SUNY Broome.
