Last-Minute Goal Sinks Panthers

On Sunday, the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team won in dramatic fashion. On Wednesday, the shoe was on the other foot, as the Panthers lost 2-1 at Corning Community College on a goal in the final minute of play. The results leaves the Panthers with a record of 7-4 overall, 6-4 in Region III, and 1-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning, the #7-ranked team in the latest NJCAA national poll, is now 9-2-1 overall, 8-2-1 in region, and 3-0-1 in the MSAC.

Corning took the lead early and held the 1-0 advantage until late in the game. The Panthers evened the score with Justice Pahlmann (Tioga H.S./Tioga Center) finding the net with 11 minutes left in the second half. The tie lasted until the last minute, with Corning scoring the game winner with 55 seconds left on the clock.

Kassie Murdock (Stillwater H.S./Stillwater) took the loss despite playing a good game in goal. The sophomore posted 18 saves on the day, keeping the game close till the final horn.

The Panthers next play at Finger Lakes Community College Saturday.
