Panthers Improve to 5-0 with Shutout Win

The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 4-0 win over Niagara County Community College Wednesday. The Panthers are now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Region III. Niagara drops to 0-3 overall and in the region.

For the third straight game, the Tompkins Cortland defense effectively shut down their opponents. The offense put pressure on Niagara from the start, finally breaking through on a goal by Cecelia Swan (Cassadaga Valley H.S./Cassadaga Valley) in the 17th minute of play. Sage Garrison (Odessa-Montour H.S./Odessa) made it 2-0 in the 38th minute, tapping in a cross from Makayla Foster (Hunter-Tannersville H.S./Hunter) for the score.

The third score came early in the second half, with Serina Guilianti (Harrison H.S./Harrison) punching in a rebound of a shot by Kristin Frear (Lansing H.S./Ithaca). The last score came from Swan with 13:42 left on the clock, making the final 4-0.

Kassie Murdock (Stillwater H.S./Stillwater) and Madisyn Zimmer (Cortland H.S./Cortland) each played a half in goal, combining on four saves in the team's third straight shutout.

Next up for the Panthers is a home game against Genesee Community College Saturday at 1 p.m.
