Second Straight 4-1 Win for Panthers

The second game of the 2017 women's soccer season was very much like the first for Tompkins Cortland – four different players scored a goal as the Panthers posted a 4-1 win. Wednesday's opponent was Jefferson Community College as the teams opened Mid-State Athletic Conference play. Tompkins Cortland is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the MSAC; Jefferson is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MSAC.

The Panthers jumped ahead in the 14th minute of play on a goal by Kristin Frear (Lansing H.S./Ithaca) off an assist from Emily Potter (Candor H.S./Candor). The second score came in the second half, just 32 seconds into play. Cecelia Swan (Cassadaga Valley H.S./Cassadaga Valley) scored the goal, with assists to Justice Pahlmann (Tioga H.S./Tioga Center) and Frear. After Jefferson got in the board four minutes later, the Panthers pushed the lead back to a pair with an unassisted goal by Kaitlin Martin (Newark Valley H.S./Newark Valley) in the 54th minute. The final score came with eight minutes left in the game, with Kaylie Yerdon (Cherry Valley H.S./Cherry Valley) converting an assist from Sage Garrison (Odessa-Montour H.S./Odessa).

Katie Slocum (Candor H.S./Candor) earned the win in goal, posting seven saves.

The Panthers return home this weekend to play Clinton Community College Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and North Country Community College Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
