May 26, 2023- Jocelin Wright has been appointed the head coach of women’s basketball at Tompkins Cortland Community College. She replaces Dave Stevenson, who retired after eight seasons leading the women’s program. Wright had served at Stevenson’s top assistant since 2021.

A native of Ithaca, Wright was a two-sport athlete in college at Nyack College (now Alliance University), competing at the Division II level in both basketball and lacrosse. She was a three-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Academic Team selection. A starter all four years, she was a team captain for two seasons, helping lead the Warriors into the CACC playoffs her junior season.

Wright joined the Tompkins Cortland staff before the 2021-22 season, and helped the Panthers to playoff appearances in both seasons. ”The last two years as the assistant coach have given me the opportunity to work closely with Coach Stevenson. The knowledge and wisdom of the game he holds is like an encyclopedia,” said Wright, noting that the two hold very similar values when it comes to basketball. “This game provides opportunities and opens doors for so many athletes, and I am ecstatic to help players reach the next level. Being a native of Tompkins County and having had the opportunity to play at a high level during my collegiate career, it gives me great pride to return home and influence young women. It is my goal to impact and encourage in a way that instills a sense of self-worth and confidence to be carried across all aspects of their lives.”

“Coach Wright’s experience as both a player and coach make her the perfect choice to lead the women’s basketball program into the future,” said Director of Athletics Mick McDaniel. “She relates well with our student-athletes and has a deep caring to help them improve both on and off the court. With her many connections around the country, this year’s Panthers team will look different with players coming from many states as well as from our back yard. We can’t wait for the team to take the court this fall!”
