The spring semester opened for the Panthers women's basketball team on Tuesday with a home game against Division II Monroe Community College. Cold shooting and foul trouble combined to doom the Panthers as the home team fell to the Tribunes 68-57. The Panthers are now 5-3 while Monroe improves to 5-9.

The game was tied at the half, 25-25, but Monroe edged ahead by three after the third and stretched the final margin in the fourth quarter. As a team, Tompkins Cortland shot just 27% from the floor and 50% from the foul line. The Tribunes also enjoyed a significant advantage in trips to the foul line, taking 24 shots from the charity stripe compared to just 10 for the home team. Two Panthers starters fouled out, the first time that has happened since the season opener against Onondaga on November 9.

Tatyanna George (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) had her first double-double of the season, posting season-highs of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Promise Myers (Binghamton/Binghamton H.S.) had 16 points and Amarionah Dixon (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) put up 11 points. Amyra Portillos (Sandia Park, N.M./Manzano H.S.) grabbed 11 rebounds and Gabby Foley (Barton/Tioga H.S.) added 9 points and 5 boards.

Looking ahead

The Panthers travel to Queensbury on Saturday to take on SUNY Adirondack.
