Panthers Women Fall to Jefferson in Return to Action

The Panthers women's basketball team returned to action Sunday after a lengthy break for Thanksgiving, dropping a home game to Jefferson Community College 84-67. The Panthers, who last played on November 18, drop to 3-2 overall and in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jefferson improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the MSAC.

The Panthers held a 19-15 lead after the first quarter. After pushing the lead to seven points early in the second quarter, the Panthers watched the Cannoneers climb back, eventually taking a 35-32 lead into the halftime. The third quarter was rough for the home team, with the Panthers making just 3-of-23 attempts from the floor and getting outscored 28-6. Trailing 63-38 at the start of the fourth quarter, Tompkins Cortland battled until the end, putting 29 points on the board in the final ten minutes and making the final 84-67.

Amarionah Dixon (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) led the Panthers with 19 points, 21 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks, and 3 assists. Tahmeya King (St. Petersburg, Fla./Northeast H.S.) had 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, and Tatyanna George (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Panthers travel to Finger Lakes Community College on Tuesday.
