Playing for the first time in over a month, the Tompkins Cortland women's basketball team took to the floor against SUNY Broome Saturday. With the offense struggling to find a rhythm, the Panthers fell behind early and couldn't catch up, losing 57-42. The Panthers are now 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Broome improves to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in the MSAC.
The Panthers trailed 17-12 after one quarter and 33-20 at the half. They made up some ground in the third, cutting the deficit to 41-33 heading into the final quarter. The rally ended in the fourth, with Broome putting the game away.
Shaylin Heidl (Candor/Candor H.S.) had a career-high 18 points to go with 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists, and a blocked shot. Elizabeth Ripley (Moravia/Home School) assed 8 points and 9 rebounds.
It's a quick turnaround for the Panthers – Tompkins Cortland hosts Hudson Valley Community College Sunday at 1 p.m.
