Third-Straight Win for Panthers Women

The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team picked up its third straight win Wednesday, racing past Cayuga Community College by a final of 85-68. With the win the Panthers are now 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Cayuga drops to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the MSAC.

For the second straight game, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Tompkins Cortland scored the first seven points of the game while building a 20-1 lead near the end of the first quarter. The score stood at 26-9 after the first ten minutes, and the Spartans never threatened the rest of the way. The Panthers pushed the lead to as many as 27 points in the second quarter and 29 points early in the final quarter before settling in on the final margin of 17 points.

 Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) matched her career-high with 25 points, including 15 on 5-of-11 shooting on three-pointers. Shantasia Jeffrey (Harlem/Curtis H.S.) had a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, adding 6 assists and 3 steals to her line. Macy Boice (Homer/Homer H.S.) poured in 16 points and Reyanah Brown (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Science) had a team-best 12 rebounds. Mackenzie Constable (Sidney/Sidney H.S.) had her best game of the season, scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range.

The Panthers are back home Saturday with a 1 p.m. game with Finger Lakes Community College.
