The semester finale for the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team saw the Panthers fall victim to a long-range shooting assault, losing at Hudson Valley Community College 86-71. The Panthers head into the winter break with a record of 2-6 overall and 2-5 in Region III. Hudson Valley improves to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the region.

The game was going well for the Panthers early. Tompkins Cortland led 19-18 after the first quarter and increased the lead a tick to 30-28 at the half. In the second half, the Vikings offense exploded, scoring 28 in the third and 30 in the fourth to put the game away. By the final horn, Hudson Valley had attempted an astounding 48 three-pointers, making 15 (31.3%). A huge advantage in offensive rebounds (16 to 3) provided the Vikings the extra possessions needed to rack up the long-range attempts.

Tompkins Cortland's top long-range threats had big days of their own. Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) made 6-of-12 from behind the arc, finishing the game with 23 points. Macy Boice (Homer/Homer H.S.) made 5-of-8 from deep, finishing with 17 points. Reyanah Brown (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Science) led the team on the boards with nine rebounds and Shantasia Jeffrey (Harlem/Curtis H.S.) had a team-best five assists.

The Panthers are now off for more than a month, taking time for finals and winter break. The next game will be January 10 at home against Davis College.
