Panthers Open Region Play with Big Win

A big night from sophomore Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) led the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team to a 72-45 win at Schenectady County Community College Tuesday. The Panthers are now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Region III play. Schenectady is 0-2 with both losses coming in region.

Shantasia Jeffrey (Harlem/Curtis H.S.) and Macy Boice (Homer/Homer H.S.) each scored six points in the first quarter as the Panthers raced out to a 22-11 lead. The margin grew to 41-24 at the half and 56-36 after three quarters, with Day pouring in eight and nine points in those periods, respectively, to help put the game away.

By the time the final horn sounded, Day had scored a career-high 25 points to go with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Reyanah Brown (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Science) had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals and Jeffrey ended the game with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Boice had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists while Ashley Charles (Bronx/Ithaca H.S.) had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Panthers return home Tuesday to host Herkimer College at 7 p.m.
