Panthers Open Season Against Tough D-II

The 2018-19 season opened with a stiff challenge for the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team: a home contest against Division II Jamestown Community College. The Panthers had some positive moments, but in the end, the Jayhawks pulled away and handed Tompkins Cortland a 73-49 defeat.

The Panthers led 10-7 with four minutes left in the first quarter before Jamestown closed out the quarter on a 13-1 run. The teams played an even second quarter, making the score 38-29 in favor of Jamestown at the half. The Panthers were outscored 21-10 advantage in the third quarter, giving Jamestown some breathing room before a nearly even fourth.

Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) led the Panthers with 14 points and 4 steals. Ashley Charles (Bronx/Ithaca H.S.) had 9 points and 6 rebounds while Shantasia Jeffrey (Harlem/Curtis H.S.) had 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Macy Boice (Homer/Homer H.S.) also grabbed 8 rebounds to go with 7 points.

The Panthers hit the road for their next game, playing at Schenectady County Community College on Tuesday.
