Leading by six at the end of the third quarter, the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team stretched their lead all the way to a 19-point win Wednesday at Cayuga Community College. The 84-65 final score improves the Panthers to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Cayuga is now 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the MSAC.
The Panthers led at the end of each quarter, but the game was close until the fourth. With the score at 58-52 after 30 minutes, Tompkins Cortland outscored Cayuga 26-13 over the final ten minutes to pull away.
Several Panthers had big games. Jaida Washington (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) had another triple-double, finishing with 19 points, 20 rebounds, and 13 blocks. Tatiana Minnick (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) set a school single-game record with 13 assists and MacKenzie Kenyon (Ovid/South Seneca H.S.) led the team in scoring with 24 points. Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) came through in the clutch, scoring 11 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter.
The next game for the Panthers will be a home contest against Jefferson Community College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27. The originally scheduled game on Saturday, January 27 against Finger Lakes Community College has been rescheduled for February 20.
