After a slow first quarter, the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team put together a big second and cruised to a 58-40 road win over Corning Community College Tuesday. The win, the third since returning from break and the fourth straight overall, improves Tompkins Cortland's record to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-State Athletics Conference. Corning drops to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the MSAC.

The first quarter ended with the Panthers trailing 12-8, but the second ten-minutes saw the visitors turn things around. MacKenzie Kenyon (Ovid/South Seneca H.S.) got hot, hitting four three-pointers while scoring 15 points in the quarter, helping the Panthers outscore the Red Barons 24-6 and take a 42-28 lead into the half. Corning took four points off the lead in the third quarter, but the Panthers ended the game by with an 11-3 fourth quarter to seal the win.

Kenyon finished with a game-high 19 points to go with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Jaida Washington (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) continued her strong play in the paint, posting an unusual double-double of 12 rebounds and 14 blocked shots, with the 14 blocks breaking the single-game record she already held. Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) just missed a more traditional double-double, posting 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Tatiana Minnick (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) had a well-rounded line of 9 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals.

Next up for the Panthers will be the first home game in more than a month. Tompkins Cortland hosts Onondaga Community College Saturday at 2 p.m.
