Panthers Open 2018 with Win at Davis

The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team opened the new semester with a 66-53 win at Davis College Monday. The Panthers improve to 6-5 overall with the non-region win. Davis also stands at 6-5 after Monday's game.

With each team playing for the first time in a month, the action was sluggish early. Davis took a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and held a 32-29 lead at the half. The Panthers got things moving in the third, outscoring the Falcons 14-8 to take the lead. A 23-13 advantage in the final quarter gave the Panthers the final margin of victory.

Tompkins Cortland's two sophomores had big games. Jaida Washington (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) collected her second straight triple-double with 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 blocks along with 3 steals and 2 assists while classmate Tatiana Minnick (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) went for 17 points 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman MacKenzie Kenyon (Ovid/South Seneca H.S.) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

The win was the last non-region game of the year for the Panthers. Mid-State Athletic Conference play resumes Saturday at SUNY Broome.
