The Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team never trailed Sunday while breaking a three-game losing skid with a 75-68 win over Hudson Valley Community College. The win leaves the Panthers 5-5 overall and 5-4 in Region III. Hudson Valley falls to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in region.

The Panthers led from the opening minute, outscoring the Vikings 15-8 in the first quarter and 21-18 in the second. The margin grew to as many as 18 points to end the third quarter at 62-44, but things got interesting in the fourth. After the Panthers moved ahead 68-48 on a Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) with 6:30 left, the home team went ice cold. While Tompkins Cortland went the next five minutes without scoring, Hudson Valley ran off 12 points to cut the score to 68-60. Tatiana Minnick (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) finally got the Panthers back on track, scoring with 1:15 left to make it 70-62, but Hudson Valley responded with four straight to make it 70-66 with 41.8 seconds left. With the clock ticking and the pressure mounting, MacKenzie Kenyon (Ovid/South Seneca H.S.) came up huge with a three-pointer with 15 seconds left on the clock, pushing the lead to 73-66. After Hudson Valley scored to make it 73-68 with 7.7 seconds, left Day took a long inbounds pass from Minnick to beat the press with a layup to seal the win.

Five Panthers scored in double figures and three had double-doubles, but none had a bigger day than Jaida Washington (Elmira/Elmira H.S.). The sophomore had the third triple-double of her career, finishing with 20 points, 22 rebounds, 10 blocks, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Reyanah Brown (Syracuse Academy of Science/Syracuse) had 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with 3 blocks and Kenyon ended the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Day poured in 20 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Minnick had 11 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals.

The win sends the Panthers into the exams and holiday break on a positive note. The team is off until a January 8 date at Davis College.
