Panthers Hang Tough With Nation's #3-Ranked Team

Playing on the road at the #3-ranked team in the nation, the Tompkins Cortland Community College women's basketball team gave was able to hang close until the final quarter, ultimately losing by a final of 76-50. The Panthers are now 4-4 overall and a 4-3 in Region III. Mohawk Valley is now 9-2 overall and 8-0 in region.

Mohawk Valley entered the game with a perfect record in regional play, having won by an average of more 35 points each game. On Saturday, the Panthers trailed 15-9 after the first quarter. Mohawk added to the lead, but Tompkins Cortland kept things close the next two quarters. The Hawks led 51-38 entering the final quarter before doubling the margin in the closing stanza.

The Panthers were led by Reyanah Brown (Syracuse/Syracuse Academy of Science) posting a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Day (Brooktondale/Ithaca H.S.) filled up the stats sheet with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Jaida Washington (Elmira/Elmira H.S.) pulled down 11 boards while scoring 7 points and blocking 4 shots.

The Panthers play at Finger Lakes Community College Tuesday.
