The Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team took the field Thursday against one of the top teams in the nation, and the result was as expected for the rebuilding program. Playing at #2 ranked Corning Community College, the Panthers lost the opener by a final of 20-0. The second game was forfeited, leaving the Panthers with a record of 0-6 on the season. Corning, the defending Region 3 champion, improves to 19-5 overall and 12-0 in region.

Game One: Corning 20, Tompkins Cortland 0  (5 innings)

The Red Barons dominated in every phase of the game. Offensively Tompkins Cortland recorded just one hit while striking out for 14 of the 15 outs. Corning, meanwhile, plated 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Abby Villnave (Homer/homer H.S.) was the only Panther to reach base, breaking up the perfect game with a single in the fifth inning.

Game Two: Corning 7, Tompkins Cortland 0  (forfeit)

With an already small roster limited even more by injuries, the Panthers forfeited game two.

Looking ahead

The Panthers are home this weekend hosting Genesee on Saturday and Niagara on Sunday.
