The nicest day of the season weather-wise didn't translate into a nice day results-wise for the Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team Tuesday as the Panthers dropped both ends of a doubleheader with Mohawk Valley Community College, 10-4 and 11-3. The Panthers are now 6-10 on the year while Mohawk Valley improves to 2-10.

Game 1: Mohawk Valley 10, Tompkins Cortland 4

The first five hitters in the order accounted for all seven hits for the Panthers, with Shelby Koch (Union Springs/Union Springs H.S.) leading the way by going 3-for-3 with two RBI. The top of the order produced a run in the bottom of the first for an early lead, but Mohawk Valley scored twice in the second and three times in the third to take the 5-1 lead. Tompkins Cortland scored twice in the fifth to pull within 5-3, but the teams traded runs in the sixth before Mohawk Valley sealed the result with four runs in the seventh.

Angela Martone (Candor/Candor H.S.) and Ashley Aloi (Cortland/Homer H.S.) each had a double as part of 1-for-3 efforts.

Game 2: Mohawk Valley 11, Tompkins Cortland 3  (6 innings)

There was no early lead for the Panthers in game two, as the Hawks scored three in the first and then tacked on runs in each inning. All three of Tompkins Cortland's runs came in the third, bringing the Panthers within one run at 4-3, but Mohawk Valley quickly answered and continued to push the lead until finally ending the game in the sixth inning due to the run rule.

Martone went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot in game two. Brianna Stafford (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had a double for the team's lone extra-base hit.

The Panthers play at Hudson Valley Community College Wednesday.
