Softball Drops Pair at Adirondack

The Tompkins Cortland Community College softball team dropped a pair of road games Sunday, falling to SUNY Adirondack 13-4 and 14-12. The Panthers are now 2-6 on the year. Adirondack improves to 6-8 overall and 6-0 in Region III.

Game 1: Adirondack 13, Tompkins Cortland 4   (5 innings)

After scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, the Panthers struggled with the gloves the rest of the game. Tompkins Cortland committed six errors that contributed to 10 unearned runs as Adirondack scored in each of its four at bats. The loss was cemented when the Timberwolves plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth, pushing the lead to 13-4. When the Panthers couldn't score in the fifth, the game was ended due to the run rule.

Just three Panthers recorded hits in game one, with Angela Martone (Candor/Candor H.S.), Ashley Aloi (Cortland/Homer H.S.), and Brianna Stafford (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) each collecting a single

 

Game 2: Adirondack 14, Tompkins Cortland 12

In game two the Panthers broke through with three runs in each of the first three innings, with Aloi providing the big blast with the team's first homerun of the season. Tompkins Cortland led 9-6 after three innings, but Adirondack came back to tie the score in the fifth and move ahead 13-9 in the top of the sixth. A run by the Panthers in the bottom of the sixth was answered by an Adirondack run in the top of the seventh, making it 14-10 going into the bottom of the seventh.

After back-to-back walks to open the inning, Sarah Hollenbeck (Candor/Tioga Center H.S.) drove in one run with a double and Aloi followed with a productive out, scoring another run to bring the Panthers within two at 14-12. With the tying run at the plate, the last two batters grounded out to end the threat and give Adirondack the sweep.

Martone, Bailey Rose (Dryden/Dryden H.S.), Emily Aloi (Cortland/Homer H.S.), Miranda Oot (McGraw/McGraw H.S.), and Hannah Mikulski (Johnson City/Johnson City H.S.) each had two hits to pace the offense.

Next up for the Panthers is a home date with Finger Lakes Community College Tuesday at 3 p.m.
