Playing at home for just the first time in nearly a month, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team controlled possession of the ball against Jamestown Community College on Saturday, but ultimately failed to find the net, falling 2-0 to the Jayhawks. Tompkins Cortland is now 1-3 while Jamestown improves to 2-5.

The Panthers fairly dominated possession in the midfield most of the game, but it didn't translate into scoring chances. The lone goal in the first half came in the 25th minute when a Jamestown player got behind the defense and won the one-on-one with the Panthers keeper. The second half featured more chances for the home team, but still no goals. Jamestown floated in a long goal in the 54th minute for what proved to be the final score of the day.

Despite holding the ball the majority of the game, Tompkins Cortland was outshot 9 to 5. Each team had two corner kicks, while Jamestown was whistled for 20 fouls and 2 yellow cards compared to 6 fouls and no cards for the Panthers. Tompkins Cortland goalkeeper Nate Stuart (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley H.S.) had four saves on the day.

Looking ahead

The Panthers play at Finger Lakes Community College on Sunday, Oct. 3.
