The longest-tenured coach in the history of Tompkins Cortland Community College athletics is stepping down. Andy Davis has decided to leave the men's soccer program he has led for the last 14 seasons in order to spend more time with family and to pursue other opportunities. A search for his successor will begin immediately.

"I've been fortunate to spend my time here working with some great young men, helping them develop as players and people," said Davis. "All of my teams are like family to me, and I'm very thankful I've had the chance to grow with each of them. While it's the right time for me to step down, I wish nothing but the best for all of my guys and for this program as a whole going forward."

Davis, who will continue his work in the College's athletics department as the office operations coordinator, took over the men's soccer program in 2005 and took the team to a new level of success. His teams won the Mid-State Athletic Conference championship five times, including in 2005, and he won six Coach of the Year awards. His 2013 squad produced one of the College's best seasons in any sport, finishing the regular season undefeated, reaching #3 in the NJCAA national rankings, and advancing to the NJCAA Region III championship game. His career record of 151-88-13 gives Davis a career winning percentage of .625 and ranks him as the second most successful coach in any sport at the College, behind only Hall of Fame softball coach Brent Doane's winning percentage of .676.

A former national player of the year and All-American as a player at Herkimer County Community College, Davis has coached 69 all-conference players, 40 all-region players, 11 all-Americans, and 5 national academic student-athlete award winners at Tompkins Cortland. His former players have gone on to play at the NCAA Division III and Division II levels, and some have played for their national team. He has also served in various national and regional executive positions, including president of the regional and national coaches associations and chair of the NJCAA Division III men's soccer poll.

"The College has enjoyed a long run as one of the premier men's soccer programs in the region, thanks largely to the hard work, dedication, and coaching skill of Andy Davis," said Tompkins Cortland's Director of Athletics Mick McDaniel. "His leadership has taken this program to new heights, and the College and the NJCAA owe him a great deal for the hard work he has put into our program and into soccer at the regional and national level."
