A trio of unanswered goals in the second half sent the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team to a 4-1 loss at home Sunday against Mohawk Valley Community College. The loss drops the Panthers to 5-9 overall and 4-9 in Region III. Mohawk Valley is 8-5 overall and 7-6 in region.

Mohawk Valley got on the board in the 18th minute, but the Panthers answered late in the first half. With 8:34 left in the half, Hugo Sauriat (New York City/ Frank McCourt) drew a foul in the box, earning a penalty kick. Noah McPherson (Hartford, Conn./Bulkeley H.S.) stepped up and delivered, tying the game at 1-1.

The tie was broken in the opening minutes of the second half when Mohawk Valley worked through the defense to take a 2-1 lead. The Hawks sealed the outcome late in the half with a pair of goals over a five-minute span.

Sean McDaniel (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) had six saves in goal for the Panthers.

With one game left on the schedule, Sunday's loss likely eliminates Tompkins Cortland from any playoff consideration. Tompkins Cortland will look to end the season on a positive note Wednesday with the final game, a 4 p.m. home contest against SUNY Broome.
