Panthers Knock Off Mohawk Valley

The Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team picked up a road win Sunday, winning at Mohawk Valley Community College. The win improves Tompkins Cortland's record to 8-6 overall and 8-5 in Region III. Mohawk Valley drops to 4-10 overall and in Region III.

The game opened with the Panthers scoring quickly. In the fifth minute of play, Padraic Iannello (Dryden H.S./Dryden) scored off an assist from Adam Nichols (Candor H.S./Candor) to give Tompkins Cortland the early lead. Mohawk Valley responded with a pair of goals, taking a 2-1 lead into the halftime break. Fifteen minutes into the second half the Panthers evened the score, with Abdoulaye Toure (DeWitt Clinton H.S./Dakar, Senegal) converting another assist from Nichols. The game-winner came just a few minutes later, with Nichols doing the honors off a feed from Zandrae Johnson (DeWitt Clinton H.S./St. Mary, Jamaica). Marton Tozser (Homer H.S./Homer) sealed the win with 12:10 left on the clock, blasting an unassisted goal.

Sean McDaniel (Dryden H.S./Dryden) earned his fourth win of the season in goal, playing all 90 minutes and recording six saves.

The Panthers finish the regular season Wednesday at SUNY Broome. The NJCAA Region III playoffs start the following week.
