Slow Start Too Much for Panthers to Overcome

A slow start proved to be too much to overcome for the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team Saturday as the Panthers lost to Onondaga Community College 5-1. Tompkins Cortland drops to 4-4 overall, 4-3 in Region III, and 1-1 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Onondaga improves to 7-2 overall and in region and 5-0 in the MSAC. With just one conference game left on their schedule, the Lazers have clinched at least a tie for the MSAC championship.

Onondaga jumped out early, taking a 3-0 lead in the opening part of the first half. The margin grew to 4-0 at the half, and each team scored once in the second half to make the final 5-1. Shaqueil Johnson (DeWitt Clinton H.S./Clarendon, Jamaica) netted the loan goal for the Panthers, his second in the last two games.

The Panthers return home Wednesday to host SUNY Adirondack at 7 p.m.
