Panthers Roll to 8-0 Win

The Mid-State Athletic Conference season-opener for the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's soccer team score the most goals for a Panthers team in nearly five years. Tompkins Cortland beat Jefferson Community College 8-0 Wednesday, evening the team's overall record at 1-1 while improving to 1-0 in the MSAC. Jefferson is now 0-1 overall and in conference.

The last time the Panthers scored eight goals in a game was September 15, 2012 (8-0 win over Corning Community College). In Wednesday's game, several Panthers had big days. Adam Nichols (Candor H.S./Candor) led the way with the first hat-trick of his career. Colton Wigsten (Spencer-Van Etten H.S./Spencer) had two goals and an assists and Marton Tozser (Homer H.S./Homer) had a goal and two assists. Amadou Ceesay (DeWitt Clinton H.S./Banjul, Gambia) and Jake Lewis (Dryden H.S./Dryden) each had their first collegiate goal for the winners, and Helder Nti (DeWitt Clinton H.S./Ghana) dished out a pair of assists. Edgar Sorto (Brentwood H.S./Brentwood) and Padraic Iannello (Dryden H.S./Dryden) each had an assist.

Jack English (Charles O. Dickerson H.S./Trumansburg), Sean McDaniel (Dryden H.S./Dryden), and Parker Hay (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) shared time in goal, combining for six saves while preserving the shutout.

The Panthers are home this weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's opponent is Clinton Community College at 2 p.m. Sunday the Panthers host North Country Community College at noon.
