Panthers Lacrosse Posts First Shutout, 27-0 Over Mohawk Valley

For the first time in program history, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's lacrosse team held an opponent scoreless for an entire game. Wednesday's 27-0 win over Mohawk Valley Community College also marked the largest margin of victory ever for the Panthers. Tompkins Cortland is now 2-0 on the season while Mohawk Valley falls to 0-2.

The Panthers dominated in every facet of the game, scoring ten goals in the first quarter and eight more in the second to take a commanding 18-0 lead into the halftime break. By the final horn, the home team had a 61-4 advantage in shots, with just one Mohawk Valley shot being on goal. The Panthers also won 22 of 28 faceoffs, with Logan Nordman (Onondaga/Onondaga H.S.) leading the effort by winning 16 of 19.

Nordman also had a big day in the offensive end, tying a program record with six assists as part of a 10-point effort. Ben Miller (Owego/Owego Free Academy) had eight goals and an assist, and Matt Salerno (Campbell Hill/Goshen H.S.) and Tosh Marshall (Sylvan Lake, Alberta/H.J. Cody H.S.) each had five goals and three assists. Brett Willcox (Ithaca/Ithaca H.S.) tallied three goals and two assists, and Mike Wasyln (Owego/Owego Free Academy) and Blair Wakula (Homer/Homer H.S.) each had a single goal.

Goalie Declan Fullerton (Westchester/Walter Panas H.S.) didn't face a shot on goal until the fourth quarter, recording the save to secure the shutout.

Looking ahead

The Panthers hit the road for the first time on Sunday, traveling to Rochester to take on Monroe Community College.
