Day one of the NJCAA Region III Tournament was a rough one, with hard greens leading to difficult scoring conditions. As a result, scores at the halfway of the championship tournament are substantially higher than expected for most teams, including for Tompkins Cortland Community College. The Panthers struggled to a team score of 382, eighth out of the eight teams at the tournament. On a positive note, Daniel Lapp (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson H.S.) remains in contention for the individual title, despite posting his second worst 18-hole score of the year with an 80. The sophomore stands tied for third place, two strokes behind the tournament leader.
As a team, the Panthers are 48 strokes behind leader SUNY Adirondack. After Lapp, Sean McDaniel (Dryden/Dryden H.S.) was second on the team with a 99 on the par-72 Timber Banks Golf Course in Baldwinsville. Jake Woods (Cortland/Cortland H.S.), fresh off helping the Panthers baseball team to a playoff appearance over the weekend, scored a 101. Tyler Clark (Odessa-Montour H.S./Odessa) rounded out the team scoring with a 102.
The second and final day of the regional tournament is Tuesday.
