Playing well in stretches wasn't enough for the Tompkins Cortland men's basketball team Wednesday as the Panthers lost on the road to #6-ranked Onondaga Community College. The 80-62 defeat leaves the Panthers with a record of 5-16 overall and 1-10 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Onondaga is 22-3 overall and 10-0 in the MSAC.
Tompkins Cortland led for much of the first half, but the home team used a late push to take a 35-24 lead into the break. The Panthers threatened to make things interesting in the second half, but ultimately the Lazers proved to be too much and pulled away for the 18-point win.
Devonte Henry (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls H.S.) had another double-double, his sixth this season, with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Sykes (Harlem/Lyons Community School) also had 17 points, adding 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
The final game of the season is Saturday, when the Panthers will recognize their sophomores before taking on Cayuga Community College. Tip-off will be at noon.
