Overtime Win for Panthers Men's Basketball

After seeing a 16-point lead evaporate in the second half, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's basketball team got a clutch offensive rebound and basket with just eight seconds left in overtime to pull out an 86-85 win at Clinton Community College Saturday. The win evens the Panthers overall record at 2-2 while moving to 2-1 in Region III. Clinton is 1-4 overall and 0-4 in region.

The Panthers built the big lead with 12 minutes left in the second half, but the Cougars clawed their way back to tie the game at 75-75 and force the extra period. In overtime, Clinton held the lead late, but Ja Don Crooms (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls H.S.) picked up a key offensive rebound and scored the game-winning basket with eight seconds left.

Omari Lane (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) had a huge game, busting out with 31 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals, and 2 assists.  Kyle Drysdale (Rosedale/Thomas Edison H.S.) had 11 points and 4 rebounds and Jaiden Allen (Marlboro/Marlboro H.S.) added 10 points. Crooms finished the game with a team-high 12 rebounds along with 6 points, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.

With Thanksgiving coming up, the Panthers have a break before returning to the court. The next game will be Tuesday, November 27 at home against Jefferson Community College.
